Day 3: Next-Generation Computational Bio-Imaging Workshop
Organized by Prof. Lei Li and Prof. George Lu
Why Bio-Imaging Matters
Bio-imaging is a vital component of modern healthcare, as it enables the visualization, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases and conditions. Bio-imaging ranges from the simple heart rate monitor on smartwatches to multi-million-dollar machines like MRI, fMRI, PET, and everything in between (microscopes, ultrasound, portable x-rays, etc.). As a core part of Digital Health, bio-imaging provides crucial data in diverse ways, such as offering a non-invasive and real-time way to monitor various biological parameters and processes, enabling the evaluation and validation of digital health interventions, and supporting the development and innovation of digital health technologies. Join us as we delve into the
current and future directions of bio-imaging, fostering collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and industry partners.
What You Can Expect
Our event will cover critical topics, including:
- Emerging Technologies and Applications for digital health

2024 Health Equity Workshop
Ensuring equitable health outcomes requires that the design, development, implementation, and dissemination of technology is culturally and contextually informed and guided by people’s lived experiences through community-engaged science. The pandemic exposed and, in some cases, widened existing gaps for historically marginalized and underrepresented communities and inequities exist across all layers of the healthcare system – from access and use of technologies to policies and procedures. Addressing health equity issues among historically marginalized communities requires innovative collaborations across diverse disciplines (medicine, public health, nursing, engineering, social sciences, humanities, liberal arts, policy) and a global perspective. The goal of this workshop is to bring together scientists and clinicians working on health equity research to facilitate new collaborations and identify a shared research agenda across disciplines. The workshop will cover a broad range of topics in health equity including: 1) accessible healthcare technologies, 2) racial/ethnic/social determinants of health, 3) fairness in machine learning, 4) explainability in machine learning.

2024 PATHS-UP Digital Health Workshop
As part of the broader healthcare transformation aimed at enhancing healthcare and health outcomes for patients dealing with Chronic Diseases such as Cardiovascular conditions, Diabetes, Cancer, and Mental Health issues among both adults and pediatric populations, efforts to increase efficiency and reduce costs have become paramount. The application of digital health technologies and tools is now exerting a more significant influence on patients, providers, and payers than ever before. To further expedite progress in this critical domain, a workshop focused on Digital Health for Chronic Diseases (Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Cancer) and Mental Health (both adult and pediatric cases) is being organized. The workshop aims to convene experts from diverse backgrounds, including clinicians, engineers, industry professionals, and government agencies. Together, they will collaborate to address pressing issues in healthcare delivery through the utilization of digital health technologies.

2023 PATHS-UP Digital Health Workshop
As part of the larger healthcare transformation to improve health care and health outcomes in regards to Cardiovascular and Diabetes, increase efficiency and reduce costs, application of digital health technologies and tools is increasingly having a greater impact on patients, providers and payers than ever before. To accelerate research in this area, a workshop on Digital Health for Cardiovascular and Diabetes (adult and pediatrics) is planned to bring together the expertise of clinicians, engineers, industry and government agencies to address issues in healthcare delivery using digital health technologies.
